Hello, My Name is Derek Perez.

I live in Berkeley, CA with two kittens, Oliver and Willy. I have been developing software for the web for the past 5 years. I started developing Java/ColdFusion web applications, but eventually ended up falling in love with Ruby. I am currently a part of a fantastic team of developers and entrepreneurs working for a better tomorrow at Panoctagon. Our office is located in Berkeley as well, which makes it rather easy to scooter into the office on a nice day.

I love the Bay Area. I love the mindset and the environment around me. Recently, I’ve become very interested in this whole “startup business” business. Its been a crazy ride so far, but at the end of the day, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Creativity is flourishing in the Bay Area and I hope to be able to contribute my part to the community.

When I am not writing software, I enjoy reading about it. Learning new things has always been something I enjoyed doing, but mostly on my own terms. I also enjoy listening, and play music, which I try to do whenever I have time.
